![]() Oppenheim on the Rhine DThe city of Oppenheim is an historic wine and cultural centre of some 7,000 inhabitants. The city’s skyline is marked by the impressive Gothic Church of St. Catherine. Visitors can admire the results of successful urban renewal programmes: the Gothic city hall with its two beautiful gables and the Gautor gate which has the distinction of being the only completely preserved medieval city gate. Everybody who makes a trip to Oppenheim should sample the excellent wine. These noble grapes have made Oppenheim known all over the world. ![]() Hjorring The city of Hjorring is located in the centre of the Vendsyssel resort district. Hjorring has about 34,500 inhabitants and extends over an area of about 31,137 hectares. The city is some one thousand years of age and has many beautiful parks. Within the city limits and around Hjorring there are various museums of history and a museum of art. Artisans and craftsmen still ply their trades in the old quarter. In the Hjorring Gallery there are 160 sculptures from northern mythology and Christianity on exhibit. The infrastructure in Hjorring balances well its industries, business and trade with schools and tourism. Hjorring is a happily functioning city where its citizens take an interest in a strong community. ![]() Tczew The city of Tczew has about 60,500 inhabitants and extends over an area of 22.26 sq. km. The autonomous government of Tczew is today the oldest one in all of Poland. Many enterprises have found a home in the city: - Machine and ship building industries - Metal processing - Food production - Hydraulic engineering and bridge construction Tczew is a major crossroad for railways and highways in the north of Poland. In the city the roads from Germany to Russia and other CIS states intersect with those from Scandinavia heading towards southern Europe. Cultural facilities - Aleksander - Skultet library - Tczew cultural centre - City park with fair weather amphitheatre - The Vistula museum, which is the only museum in Poland dedicated to that river - Sports and recreation centre The Werder upon Havel city administration supported the exhibition " Old Dischau Vistula Bridge " with a contribution of 3,000.00 DM. As a mobile exhibition it shall be shown in various Polish cities and finally reside in place in the Dirschau Vistula Museum. ![]() Birzai Lithuania is a country located along the east coast of the Baltic Sea. Its coastline stretches over 99 kilometres. The country covers an area of 65,300 sq. km. Lithuania’s capital is Vilnius. Lithuanian is the official language. The country had 3.71 Million inhabitants in 1997, which were comprised of 81.4 % Lithuanians, 8.3 % Russians, 7.0 % Polish additionally: Ukrainians, Jews, Germans, Latvians, Tatars, Sinti and Roma. Mother nature has provided many gifts for Lithuania. The secret of the countrys beauty lies in its pleasantly diversified landscape. The Niemen is the biggest river in Lithuania which carries the waters of all the other Lithuanian rivers to the Baltic Sea. The Courland Spit is a narrow peninsula with a length of 98 km with sand dunes and pine forests. It is well known by the name of "Amber Coast". In the region around Birzai the old traditions of brewing beer are still alive. Many brewers live in the city and its suburbs. ![]() Almdorf (Germany) Almdorf is located about 6 km from Bredstadt. The North Sea (and thus the Watt National Park) is only about ten minutes away by car. Almdorf has 500 inhabitants. Almdorf is a small village of 500 residents many of which live in thatched-roof cottages. If you look out the window from your holiday flat you will see the forest. In nearby Bredstadt you can enjoy yourself in an outdoor swimming pool. A walk through the Watt National Park or a stroll along the dikes are further opportunities beckoning to you. Physicians recommend the benefits of a stay in the bracing coastal climate. In 1990 Almdorf became a part of the village renewal programme of the State of Schleswig-Holstein.
