![]() Werder (upon Havel) the water city Werder (upon Havel) is surrounded by a number of lakes known for their high quality of water. It is enclosed by the lakes of Schwielowsee, Glindowsee, Großer Plessower See and Zernsee, and partly surrounded by the Havel river. This fittingly gives Werder its name which literally means "land where the water flows around".It comes as no surprise therefore that you can find all kinds of popular water sports activities in this region. Boat charters and rowing boat rentals providing canoes, kayaks, pedal-boats, licence-free motorboats and sailing yachts won’t leave you high and dry. Besides the traditional water sports like rowing and sailing, we also offer surfing, water skiing, catamaran sailing and paragliding for action lovers. The Havel lake district around Potsdam and Brandenburg where you are allowed to drive motorboats at around 200 km offers the best conditions for boating holidays. Nowhere else in Europe will you find worldwide-known cultural heritage and unspoiled countryside so close to one another, and all of this directly at Berlin’s gates. The district offers a fantastic variety of holiday activities, including water sports, culture and city trips. Unlike other rivers, the Untere Havel reveals its multi-facetedness by connecting over 40 lakes on its journey through Berlin-Potsdam and Brandenburg. Those who prefer just watching will get more than their money's worth: there are a great number of rowing, sailing and canoeing regattas, water skiing events and other water events as well as seaport parties throughout the whole year. Werder Water Feast is one of the many highlights. Apart from the professional sports competitions, there are also many amateur and school sporting events organised throughout the year. Cross-runs, dragon boat races and school contests are just a few examples. The number of berths for private boats and visitors has been constantly increasing. Many new ports have been created. The largest one is currently being constructed in the hugely developing northernmost area of Werder, the Havelauen. Here, more than 360 boats will soon have a place to moor. When you hear the term ‘water’, isn’t swimming the first thing that comes to mind? Here you will find our public beaches and lidos:

| Fishing Fishing has been a popular leisure activity in Werder and its surrounding area for almost 120 years, offering passionate anglers various possibilities to practice their hobby on land as well as at water. The most beautiful fishing areas are not only the Havel river near Werder and Phöben, but also Lake Glindower, the large and the small Lake Zernsee, the large Lake Plessower and the Wuplitz way leading to Lake Göttinsee. Licence-free fishing ![]() Since the 1st August 2006, it has been much easier to go fishing in Brandenburg. This is because you no longer need a fishing licence for fishing white fish such as carps, tenches, barbells, rudds, roaches or breams. However, you should be careful not to throw your fishing rod wherever and whenever you like. Before going fishing for the first time, it is necessary to pay an annual fishing fee and to purchase a fishing permit. For fishing predatory fish you still need a fishing licence and you have to consider the biological rest periods. Furthermore, fishing at night is forbidden. For further information on fishing fees and day tickets, please contact the Brandenburg Angler Association by phone + 49 (0) 331-7430110 or click www.lav-bdg.de. The fishing permits are valid for the following areas in and around Werder: Caputh Ferry Lake Schwielowsee Lake Glindowsee from train bridge, large and small Lake Zernsee to Töplitz/Phöben.
